A touch of Spanish Colonial style

Architects: William Purcell and Frederick Strauel (“spec” house for Henry M. Peterson)
Date: 1929
Style: Spanish Colonial / English Cottage Revival

Surprise! While most of the Purcell and Strauel houses in this group are purely English Cottage Revival, in this house the architects and their client decided to spice things up a bit by including characteristics of the Spanish Colonial Revival -- namely Roman arches in the large open entry porch and the windows at the top of the gable as well as prominent rafter tails and purlins. The entry porch arches are supported by simplified Romanesque columns.
