French vernacular revival / Colonial revival

A French country cottage in Minneapolis!

Architects: William Purcell and Frederick Strauel (“spec” house for Henry M. Peterson)
Date: 1928
Style: French Cottage Revival/Colonial Revival

Surprise! Here, the architects and their client departed completely from the English Cottage Revival Style that they used for all the other houses in this group. It is the careful, Classical symmetry of this façade that makes us think of the Colonial Revival, which was one of many popular house styles in the 1920s and 30s. But the dormer windows that push up through the roof line are borrowed from barns in rural France.
